OBAMA LIED, AFRICANS DIED
Monday, February 8th, 2010 | Uncategorized
A US decision to freeze spending on treatment for HIV in several African countries has prompted concern that some of the gains made against the AIDS epidemic since 2003 could be reversed.
President George W. Bush’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), launched in 2003, focused largely on treating patients in urgent need of medicine, but the new US administration’s programme has shifted away from emergency treatment.
“George W. Bush is a hero in this country,” said Peter Mugyenyi, who heads Uganda’s Joint Clinical Research Centre, a leading AIDS treatment clinic.
Uganda received 929 million dollars (678 million euros) from PEPFAR between 2003-2008 and used much of those funds to provide some 150,000 people with Antiretroviral therapy.
But the US switch in emphasis means that clinics are now being forced to turn new patients away.
“We had drugs under PEPFAR. We didn’t have to turn patients away,” he told AFP.
Mugyenyi accuses the United States of breaking its promise to Uganda. “They have changed their programme very regrettably,” he said.
“The number one thing is availability of treatment. Any other programme, whatever name they call it, will fail.”
Douglas Mugabi, a thin, softly spoken farmer who lives just outside Kampala, told AFP that he and his wife tested positive in 2003, and, when his health deteriorated in 2006, he began receiving free drugs.
Last year, his wife’s condition also worsened.
“When I came in and we found out there was no longer a free programme I became cold,” the 48-year-old said. “My wife is worried because the drugs are expensive, but according to our means, we couldn?t support a life-long treatment.”

Maybe he needs the money to fund his new agency to monitor “climate change,” which was announced today in a capital about to be buried again in snow which the eminent prophet Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., said would never again come to D.C. because of “global warming.”
G.W. Bush quietly did more for Africa than any other American administration.

Yeah, well, the administration is thinking about retasking recce satellites to check up on AGW, so it must be more important.

This is the very reason the Episcopal Church has fired its cleaning people. The money they save will help them keep the “Government Advocacy for Peace and Justice Associate” wonking away at all hours over at Episcopal Church Headquarters. It’s clear he’s not been notified or this injustice would have been addressed much sooner.

Obamacare at its most revelatory. Coming less soon than expected to a provider near you. Just wait until the gay caucus focus group finds out about this! Or the EcUSA Justice folks (just as soon as the clear the mud off the windshield from the union deposing thingy)!!
Mr. Mugabi,
You and your wife aren’t American voters. That is what should be written as ’cause of death’ on your eventual death certificates.

I thought George Bush hated black people!

As they say, why spend all that money when all they need to do is were a condom!!!!
That dammm Pope has a lot to answer for!!!! s/- off.

Perhaps the money is being held up until Uganda (and other countries) choose to normalize homosexual relationships? (I’m joking, but not laughing!)

Obama is willing to spend US Dollars to export abortion and put those who promote ungodly and unhealthy sexual practices and abortion in positions of power – but he will not fund programs that result in true personal, moral, relational, spiritual and cultural health…such as abstinence programs and medicine and education for AIDS prevention and treatment.
Unless he repents, Obama will be named among the evil rulers like the kings of Israel who led the people astray into worship of Baal and Molech.

Perverts complaining about cutting HIV/AIDS funding to Africa? Are you kidding?
Perverts in the West don’t give a rat’s ass about the epidemic in Africa, so the Obortionist won’t hear a peep from the left about this.
Cut money for treatments here in the US, though, and they’d call him a murderer; despite the fact that those infected have counted mostly on insurance or govt assistance (i.e. someone else’s funding) to keep themselves alive.
That aside, Uganda has done more than any other African nation to get the epidemic under control, and partly because of funding GWB pushed through Congress. To me the notion that BHO would throw Africans under the bus this way is a sign that he really doesn’t care about anyone but the elites and gullible here who elected him.
