EMERGENCY!! EMERGENCY!!

James Cameron’s Ego has escaped.  Stay indoors and keep your children indoors.  Move to the lowest and most secure part of your home possible.

Stay away from windows.  If you are out of doors, seek protection in the lowest space you can.  If you see James Cameron’s Ego approaching, do not panic but turn and slowly walk in the opposite direction.

Keep tuned to the Emergency Alert System for further information as it becomes available.  Repeating.  James Cameron’s Ego has escaped.

I do feel that film and sports figures ought to be able to walk around in public without people bothering them. I’d have a lot more sympathy with Cameron if he’d been polite about it. The casual use of ugly language in public is a symptom of the general decline in our culture.

AFter all, he IS “The King of the World”, you know. Politeness is for little people who make $15 an hour.

If they’re worried about stuff showing up on Ebay, then just get the guy’s name. Sign the poster “To Stephen: Best Wishes, Jimmy C”. If it’s really for the fan, then a personalized autograph will mean a lot more than just a signature. If it’s mean to be resold on Ebay, then the resale value takes a big hit. Win-win-win.

Though in general, I’m fairly sympathetic toward celebrities who turn down autograph seekers, so long as they’re polite about it. We don’t know everything that they do for their fans, we just know that one guy feels snubbed. A celebrity could sign 500 autographs, and still be an a-hole in the eyes of #501. A celebrity can “give back” to the fans without having to sacrifice all of his private time.

It makes me wonder if people need to create their own idols. The only reason people like Cameron are so successful anyway is because people like this fan *made* him what he is by giving him their money. Why would he create a useless idol that has nothing but contempt for him? He can’t even cook his dinner over half of this hack.

This is not an emergency for me, as I am in no personal danger from Cameron’s Ego. In the first place, I wouldn’t know him if I saw him in public. In the second place, I think his movies are fluff (technically brilliant fluff, granted) and I wouldn’t waste time stroking said Ego. Third, celebrity simply isn’t a drawing card on it’s own. If I saw a celebrity I really like (say Leonardo diCaprio), I might tell him I really admire his work and have a good day, but that’s about it.

Now, I once saw Cal Ripkin signing books at Sam’s Club and I still regret not buying a copy or six and getting in line… but that’s a whole other order of thing.

Someone once said to John Wayne, “How about an autograph? John Wayne replied, “Sure”. Before Duke could lift a pen, the guy wrote out his name on a piece of paper and gave it to John Wayne.

Fame and celebrity are fleeting things. At least the man could have been polite about refusing to give an autograph.

I do agree that fans can sometimes be too pushy and demanding, but that is just the way Hollywood does things. If you can’t take the heat of celebrity, then go do something else.

I sympathize somewhat with the celebs on this one. As Snoop Dog (!) said, “a man’s hand gets tired.”

But have you forgotten what a brilliant clairvoyant the man was, creating that earlier blockbuster metaphor for the Obama administration…uhh…

Who is James Cameron?

I have no problem with celebs declining to give autographs. But there is no reason to be an a$$hole about it. I once asked Sandy Koufax, my all-time baseball hero, for an autograph, and he said, “Sure,” and signed my paper. I once asked Bob Gibson, another hero, for an autograph, but he politely said, “Don’t do it,” and I respected him for it. In case any other posters are interested, I will give MY autograph for a mere five dollars. Hey, times are tough! But, as I said, Cameron could have politely declined, but he chose to take the a-hole route. What a chump!

Don Janousek,
“In case any other posters are interested, I will give MY autograph for a mere five dollars.”
Would you be willing to autograph a $10.00 check for $5.00?

Cameron chose his profession and I chose mine. Sucks to be him, have more money than any of us could dream about AND be bothered by fans. NOT feeling any sympathy at all…

Chris,

I know you won’t see Avatar because of the message. I was willing to overlook that because I wanted to see the movie as much for its technical side. Now you have gone and pushed me over the line. I WILL NOW NOT SEE THAT ASSHATS MOVIE.

I wish he had a website dedicated to his big, fat, arse like ego, so that I could personally tell him how I feel. But he probably doesn’t because his big, fat, arse like ego could not stand the criticism.

Feels good to vent.

I’ll ‘fess up: I liked Titanic and was convinced no-one else would because of its sentimentality.

Both men are partly wrong but Cameron’s the worse a-hole.
