IRONY DEPRIVATION

You Republicans are just like SLAVEHOLDERS!!   And now that I have your attention, can I get some time off this weekend?

Senators and staffers watched CSPAN breathlessly from their offices Wednesday evening as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid indicated they might not have to work this weekend.

The Senate has been working at a breakneck pace (for the Senate) on the health reform legislation. Lawmakers  worked all last weekend on Democrats’ health reform bill and they worked the Saturday before Thanksgiving and all signs indicated they would work this coming weekend too.

But Reid, who wants to get a healthcare bill finished by Christmas, urged Republicans on the Senate floor to forego a debate on several conference reports this weekend in order to give Senators and staffers the weekend off.

It turns out Reid has a 1,000 plus per plate fundraiser scheduled for Saturday in New Orleans, according to one local paper, which also reports that Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-LA, a key swing moderate in the health care debate, will also be in attendance.

No you can’t, Harry.  Because we’re just like slaveholders, remember?  Majority Leader, do you pay any attention to the stuff that comes out of your mouth?

Republicans rejected Reid’s request Thursday morning to fast track several spending bills, clear the floor for health reform votes next week, and take the weekend off.

“Republicans are prepared to provide a platform for the debate as long as it takes,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell, noting that “The majority leader said we would be working every weekend and we took him at his word.”

“We expect to be here this weekend and we look forward to it. Republicans believe there is nothing more important we can do than stop this bill and start over… we are eager to continue the debate.

“I know people have fundraisers because they are running for reelection and people have other important things to do, but there is nothing more important to do than this,” said McConnell.

Yup… that’s me…

Gee… If I was being paid to protect the Constitution and the people of the United State… I would expect all these holidays and extra time off… just like the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are getting… just like I got when I was over there in 2006…

Harry… when was the last time you worked 14-16 +hour days. 7 on, 1 off? Under combat conditions?

And no, driving on the Beltway doesn’t qualify.

Too bad we can’t deport all of our career politicians and lobbyists to somewhere that more fitting of their actual level of intellect and importance. Latrine-cleaning in Bangladesh comes to mind.

Like the Wall Street Journal opined a few days ago, how did such a nasty, unlikeable man ever get so far in politics?

Another Louisiana Purchase moment. It would be nice if Louisiana voters would reject Landrieu, and we will all rejoice when Nevada dumps Harry.

The next question is, who are the people who are willing to pay $1000 a plate to meet this unlikable man?

Katherine, the answer is: people who want something and consider $1000 a reasonable investment. It may be an actual payoff – influence on where a highway goes, or something like that, or it may be an ideological payoff. Heck, it could be both, if you are running an abortion clinic.

The makeup of the present Democratic leadership in the House and Senate is an excellent example of why we need to enact Term Limits as an amendment to the Constitution.

Term limits… Hmmm…
So the idea is to trade inexperienced morons for experienced morons?
Could work… At least we’d get one full term out of them (their last) when they weren’t distracted by running for reelection and could actually pay attention to – you know – governing.
