Professional wrestling is fake:

If you own any shares in alternative energy companies I should start dumping them NOW. The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth (aka AGW; aka ManBearPig) has been suddenly, brutally and quite deliciously exposed after a hacker broke into the computers at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) and released 61 megabites of confidential files onto the internet.

When you read some of those files – including 1079 emails and 72 documents – you realise just why the boffins at Hadley CRU might have preferred to keep them confidential. As Andrew Bolt puts it, this scandal could well be “the greatest in modern science”. These alleged emails – supposedly exchanged by some of the most prominent scientists pushing AGW theory – suggest:

Conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal destruction of embarrassing information, organised resistance to disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in their public claims and much more.

But perhaps the most damaging revelations  – the scientific equivalent of the Telegraph’s MPs’ expenses scandal – are those concerning the way Warmist scientists may variously have manipulated or suppressed evidence in order to support their cause.

This is one of the tiniest of the global left’s crimes against humanity. But it’s still a crime and should be treated as such.

You will hear NOTHING about this in the mainstream press. Nothing.

Hey does this mean they have to give back all the government aid, Nobel Piece Prizez etc?

I think the author is greatly overoptimistic that the global warming lies will be widely exposed. The left’s control of academia and the major media is too strongly entrenched.

I understand. Hey, it happens. Perhaps they “just knew deep down inside” that Global Warming is true, so that justified all the deception and covert attempts to silence those who disagreed with them.

I’m starting to think one reason that secular scientists are so skeptical of Christianity is that they project their own… errrmm… methods on to the original Apostles and Gospel authors.

But pro-evolution scientists wouldn’t do such a thing towards non-evolution scientists, would they?

Smurf Breath

It provides meaning to the masses to have a cause to fight for. If Global Warming did not exist, secular man would have to invent it. And I thought secularism was supposed to cure human beings of irrationality and the brutishness displayed by those who would silence their critics. Go figure.

Frankly, it rings true to me. It gives science a bad name. I have seen evidence that there is similar pressure on health professionals to avoid any reports that suggest certain sexual behaviour may be less healthy, or certain sexual orientations learned rather than inherited, or that children might do best with Mom-and-Dad parenting arrangements.

It would take a courageous news editor to run this in a national newspaper or news channel. Do we have courageous news editors anymore? Maybe not.

Don’t think any of them made it in, Allen, at least not yet. The system may be going goofy again.

Sorry, till these news are indisputably confirmed by a trustworthy scientific authority, I remain convinced by Al Gore’s brilliant, authoritative, Nobel Acceptance Speech

These guys are toast. Scientists as a whole are entirely trustworthy individuals. They are serious about their work and they know that their research requires a high level of trust from the public.

We might not see outright public rejection of this gang, but I guarantee you that they will not be seeing many dinner party invitations in the future.

What they have done is drop a fly in the soup. Now the whole bowl is germy. Anything they publish in the future will be thoroughly vetted.

When Al Gore states that the earth’s core is millions of degrees, it exposes either early dementia or lay ignorance. In either case, He is not qualified to speak to the issue of “Man made global warming”. He is not just the poster boy for global warming. He is also the poster boy for a hypocritical and massive carbon footprint.

Oh c’mon. Al just was looking for a way to say “way hot”.

Katherine
November 21, 2009

If this holds up, these guys are guilty of the biggest professional sin a scientist can commit: fudging data to support a pre-determined result. A real scientist goes where the data lead.

Katherine –
In the two posts which wound up in Comment Purgatory™ I suggested that there were scientists who become data benders (I used a common word for “prostitute”) in order to insure that the grant money for research keeps rolling in. This is possible when Big Academia becomes controlled by post-modern Liberal Totalitarians, who indulge in group think and other Politically Correct behavior.

Note that I am not saying that all scientists do this, but just the ones who are too weak to buck the system.

Just recall all the past controversies in science: Galileo, Louis Pasteur with his germ theory, etc. Remember the brouhaha created by Max Planck and Albert Einstein with the quantum theory. Scientists can be just as dogmatic as some fundamentalist wackos.

There are at least three factors in research that contribute to “error”. 1. Refereed journals are not necessarily blind reviews of submissions. You will find that those who are published are frequently part of one professional clique or another. Another problem is that research results that are not “significant” (at the .01 or .05 level) are not as attractive to publish. In other words failing to reject the Null Hypothesis can be just as important a result but is less attractive to professional publications. The problem is that the Experimental Hypothesis becomes what the experimenter attempts to prove rather than rejecting or failing to reject the Null Hypothesis.A third factor is who is funding the research? I believe in global warming as a natural cycle but I don’t believe that man made global warming and the extent that it contributes to overall global warming is as big a factor as it is being made out to be. Man made global warming is the current dog and pony show of entrepreneurs, politicians and attention seekers.

Another one to check out: The Undergrowth of Science, by Walter Gratzer (Oxford Univ. Press, 2000). If the author ever does a new edition, he could add a chapter on GW.

Katherine gets it. You don’t. This is academic fraud of the highest order.
They will be fired, their names will be mud, they’ll never work in science again – hell they’d not even be employable as schoolteachers.

The scientific community is much more like Rome than Canterbury.
Mess up like this and you’re history.

Katherine
November 22, 2009

Sinner, there’s been a lot of suppression of contradictory research in this field. People have been unable to get grants or positions if they don’t support the anthropogenic global warming hypothesis. Perhaps this scandal, if these emails are real and not maliciously edited, will blow this open and encourage more real science.

See Richard Fernandez’s analysis. There are huge sums of money tied up in the Global Warming scam. It won’t go down without a fight.

November 24, 2009

I’d like to see Sinner comment on an article about, say, Frank Lombard. “He should be thrown in prison! Executed! At the very least he should never be allowed to adopt again! Oh yeah… I guess that’s true.”
