It appears that the bid of lesbian Episcopal priest Bonnie “It’s an Order of Mongolian Beef, Not a Higgs Boson It’s a River, Not a Pie” Perry, who is a lesbian, to lesbianally become the next Episcopal Bishop of Minnesota has gone down in flames.

The heterosexist patriarchy is probably still doomed though. Or something like that.

Correction: “lesbian Episcopal priestESS Bonne”

Well, she lost votes, but moved ahead in the rankings on the second ballot.

Anyone know when LA has its elections?

But who won the election? Is it over?

Hmmm! In poking around, I found that one parish has agreed with Bishop Jelinek on a DEPO arrangement. So DEPO can work, if the diocesan bishop is a willing partner. Otherwise, it is a no win situation for everyone.

Allen,
It’s not over. Second Ballot time was 11:49 AM, with no majority reached. They probably broke for lunch at that point. There will be major politicing going on for the votes that had been going to the last two candidates. Expect there will be some re-alignment on the next vote.

Third ballot now posted. Still no majority of both orders for any one candidate, but it looks like the race is between Rev Mariann Budde and Rev Brian Prior

Off topic–Chris, delete if you want. But Thursday I had the very great honor and privilege of sitting at a dinner with Bishop Henry Ndukuba of the diocese of Gombe (Nigeria). He ministers in a province under sharia law, but keeps on! He asked for prayer for two things that I thought we might all agree on: (1) For the grace of God to continue to multiply in Gombe and (2)for men and women who will serve God.

With all the nutty news out there, here’s a refreshing change! And some good news for a change!

Ballot 4 up. Rev Brian Prior two clergy votes short of a win.
Rev Mariann Budde close second, with Sparks distant third. Perry and Turner appear to have dropped out.

Rev Brian Prior wins.

Was the Rev. Brian Pryor one of the gay candidates? It goes without saying that he accepts the agenda; nobody else is winning except in the few conservative dioceses.

Katherine,

If he is, his wife hasn’t found out about it.

Ah. According to materials posted on the Minnesota diocesan site, he’s married with two children. A believer in “total ministry,” formed by the Baptismal Covenant and “the core Gospel justice value of inclusion.”

Y’know, if LA doesn’t elect an LGBT bishop, after all of the near-misses in the past year or two, I think Susan Russell and Integrity are going to be claiming institutional prejudice. Watch for it.

If I remember correctly, Katherine, none of the homosexual candidates has ever been close to a factor in any of the elections they’ve been involved in. It’s an Apple Brown Betty, Not the Large Hadron Collider was up for a slot once before and was never in that game either. I don’t think any of the homosexual candidates has made top three.

I don’t think 815′s leaning on people, you know, “We’l let you go through the motions of nominating one but don’t you dare elect him/her.” I think it’s just a case of the candidates not measuring up.

LA’s got two of ‘em in the field, right? If it’s going to come any time soon, it’s going to come there.

Stick a fork in that dyke. She’s done.

Think Susie would settle for just one pervert elected in LA? Personally, I think now she won’t be happy without a pair.

Katherine

But Christopher, that assumes that the individuals can be judged as individuals rather than as representatives of their identity groups. You and I look at people as individuals; the liberals look at them as stereotypes.

I agree that 815 probably isn’t leaning on these elections.

midwestnorwegian, the correct term is the contraction of “priest substitute,” i.e., priestitute.

Peter? Do not make me come down there, young man[frowns menacingly].

Just to clarify, Matthew: Perry lost votes in all the ballots before she withdrew her name. On the second ballot, the other bottom dweller happened to lose more.

Reading the bios and Q&As for the candidates was amuinsg, I have to say. It looks like the diocese wants to tick the boxes for saying all the right things, but when it comes down to it, an actual lesbian or person of native heritage is a step too far to choose.

For all the PC chattering about “Our diocese has varied ethnic and cultural components: American Indian, African American, Hmong American, Spanish Speaking Americans, and GLBT. What has been your experience working with these groups? What is your vision to strengthen and support these ministries?”, the top two candidates were the white married heterosexuals with kids :-)

The Native American/American Indian heritage candidate who had nothing in his bio about the LGBT was dead last. He was also the only one who had a half-decent answer to the question “Describe a previous conflict between several parties that you had been personally involved in and how you went about resolving it? What was the ultimate outcome?”

He had been involved in mediating a dispute between families in an Alaskan village. The Revs. Prior and Budde had, respectively, given as examples a row over altar rails in building the new sanctuary and a fight over a building fund. Hmmm – let’s see: storm in teacup versus actual real-life consequences. Yup, guess which one is more pertinent to the diocese! ;-)

By the bye, is Bonnie (yet another) ex-Catholic? She mentions in her bio “Upon moving to a new location the first thing my father and I did was scout out the closest public library and the nearest Catholic Church. My parents modeled involvement and leadership in their faith community and, in turn, during
high school I attended a teen Cursillo…Upon graduating from college I spent a year in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, working at a hospice for terminally ill children and at an agency that helped clothe and feed people.”

“The Rev. Brian Prior to be IX Bishop of Minnesota”

IX? Roman numerals? In the Episcopal Church? Maybe folks are right to be concerned about Benedict’s influence…

Chris, someone once told me that the primary reason there are rest stops on the Interstates is to provide a place for parents to pull over and beat the kids. ;-)

Come on down, Chris. Bp. Ackerman dropped by our parish a couple of weeks ago; we’d be honored to have you, as well.

I can’t get away for another month or so(and probably not even then) but I’d be down there day after tomorrow if I could. If only to drink with you and FW Ken.

There’s a nice new pub on the westside a buddy and I hit the other day. Anytime…

I don’t actually drink alcoholic beverages, but I enjoy a quiet place and they don’t charge an arm and a leg for a soft drink.
