“We know what we worship,” Jesus told the Samaritan woman.  Liberal Anglicans, on the other hand, worship they know not what.  From the Anglican Communion web site:

Our faith and our ancestors have always taught us that the earth is our mother and deserves respect; we know that this respect has not been given. We know that like a mother the earth will continue to give its all to us. However, we also know that we are now demanding more than it is able to provide. Science confirms what we already know, our human footprint is changing the face of the earth and because we come from the earth, it is changing us too. We are engaged in the process of destroying our very being. If we cannot live in harmony with the earth, we will not live in harmony with one another.

Those of us who live in the developed world realise all too painfully that our contribution to the human foot print is unreasonably high while the burdensome consequences of climate change is unequally born by our sisters and brothers in the developing world who have contributed least to the problem and who have limited if any choices available to respond to it. This is a moral issue.

Is it too much to hope that developed economies consciously break the nexus between economic growth and population expansion. Clearly world population is already at its absolute upper limits.

Is it too much to hope that countries most responsible for increased emissions provide funds and expertise to mitigate the effects of climate change in those countries most adversely affected, investing in the protection of ecosystems and bio-diversity.

Regular MCJ commenter Michael D. found this little gem wasting away again in Mikey-Inghamville.

What might Creation, the Spirit of Gaia, our Living Dew-Hearted Mother Earth spinning in the Infinite Cosmic Mystery, be asking of the church today?

All of which makes the following Origin of the Species 2009, I guess.

What happened to Global Warming?

This headline may come as a bit of a surprise, so too might that fact that the warmest year recorded globally was not in 2008 or 2007, but in 1998.

But it is true. For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.

And our climate models did not forecast it, even though man-made carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise.

So what on Earth is going on?

Sceptics argue that the warming we observed was down to the energy from the Sun increasing. After all 98% of the Earth’s warmth comes from the Sun.

But research conducted two years ago, and published by the Royal Society, seemed to rule out solar influences.

One solar scientist Piers Corbyn from Weatheraction, a company specialising in long range weather forecasting, disagrees.

He claims that solar charged particles impact us far more than is currently accepted, so much so he says that they are almost entirely responsible for what happens to global temperatures.

He is so excited by what he has discovered that he plans to tell the international scientific community at a conference in London at the end of the month.

What is really interesting at the moment is what is happening to our oceans. They are the Earth’s great heat stores.

If proved correct, this could revolutionise the whole subject.

What is really interesting at the moment is what is happening to our oceans. They are the Earth’s great heat stores.

According to research conducted by Professor Don Easterbrook from Western Washington University last November, the oceans and global temperatures are correlated.

For much of the 1980s and 1990s, it was in a positive cycle, that means warmer than average. And observations have revealed that global temperatures were warm too.

But in the last few years it has been losing its warmth and has recently started to cool down.

These cycles in the past have lasted for nearly 30 years.

So could global temperatures follow? The global cooling from 1945 to 1977 coincided with one of these cold Pacific cycles.

Professor Easterbrook says: “The PDO cool mode has replaced the warm mode in the Pacific Ocean, virtually assuring us of about 30 years of global cooling.”

To confuse the issue even further, last month Mojib Latif, a member of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) says that we may indeed be in a period of cooling worldwide temperatures that could last another 10-20 years.

One thing is for sure. It seems the debate about what is causing global warming is far from over. Indeed some would say it is hotting up.

Tell you what, Anglican Communion.  Since you’re now letting “science” write your doctrine for you, work out the science completely and then get back to me.  But not before, okay?  Because I’m a Missourian, Anglican Communion.  I never have and never will take anyone’s word for it.

So much foolishness…

but let’s start here:

Clearly world population is already at its absolute upper limits.

The population of the world is 6,790,257,999 (6.7 billion).

The population density of Manhattan is 70,595 per square miles.

Texas has 268,601 square miles

All of which is to say that (if I did the math right) the entire population of the world would fit into the state of Texas 2.79 times with a density the same as Manhattan.

Now, while I prefer Fort Worth with a density of 1827.8 persons per square mile, I certainly could not argue that we are at any sort of “absolute upper” limit of the population. I know that mere facts are unnecessary when one possesses Truth, but it’s such fun poking holes in these gasbags.

On a double check, I find that the almost the entire population of the world (.96, actually) would fit into the United States with the population density of Fort Worth. All those extra bodies might melt Alaska, though, letting Texas re-take it’s rightful place as largest state.

The hatred of human life is a notable feature of TEC – abortion and sterile sexuality are two of the consequences of rejecting life. I suppose it’s yet another manifestation of narcissism: the few people, the more there is for ME!

Two points:

while the burdensome consequences of climate change is unequally born by [...]

1) The word you’re looking for is “borne,” not “born.”

2) That should be “are,” not “is.” “The consequences … are borne.”

That’s only what I observed on a first glance, and I can’t be bothered to read the rest, or comment on the substance (which already has been so well rebutted elsewhere, not that the authors let that fact stop them). My only comment is: if you’re going to write this sort of tripe, at least write grammatically-correct tripe.

I should mention that grammar errors do not, per se, mean that a piece of writing is without merit. My judgment that this piece is without merit is unrelated to my pointing out its grammatical errors.

However, grammatical errors in a hastily-dashed-off blog comment are one thing. Grammatical errors (especially two in such close proximity to each other) in an official statement, which has presumably survived one or more rounds of editing, are quite a bit more embarrassing.

“Our faith and our ancestors have always taught us that the earth is our mother” Huh?
I’ve read plenty of references in the Bible to God the Father, but I can’t find any references in the Bible to “Mother Earth” I guess just did not looked hard enough.

Is it too much to hope writers of this fatuous twaddle punctuate their interrogative sentences with a question mark.

Question: “What might Creation, the Spirit of Gaia, our Living Dew-Hearted Mother Earth spinning in the Infinite Cosmic Mystery, be asking of the church today?”

Answer: Absolutely nothing, you twit! “Mother Earth”, the “Cosmic Mystery” etc. are inanimate entities, incapable of rational thought; hence incapable of formulating a question!

What might the CREATOR of these things be asking us?
Now That’s quite another question; one worthy of our consideration. We are, after all stewards of his creation and answerable for our stewardship!

When can we expect the leaders and shakers of TEO to explain that abortion is a green choice that is good for Gaia? I mean how often does a person get to please two deities at one time? Molech and Gaia will surely reward them.

And was this originally written by one of the aging radical nuns or sisters of the Catholic Church? Sure sounds like their dogs’ prattle.

Dogs’ vomit is more Scriptural, but you identified their false gods Molech and Gaia correctly, Paula.

People who see no merit in real Christianity and demote Christ to a way, not The Way show they have not tasted and seen that The Lord is Good and that Jesus Christ and His Cross, Blood and death of the old man of the flesh and Resurrection as a new creation is the only cure for the ailment of fallen man – SIN.

Shows why the ABC has been digging such a deep hole. All this s**t is not going into your average outhouse, is it? If however the ABC keeps on digging he will soon have to begin digging up from the center of the earth and all those nasty evil brutish volcanic gases from Mother Gaia’s inner digestive goodness will cover the earth and end civilization as we know it just like it did the dinosaurs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tsk, tsk, tsk, Mr. Johnson. How deficient thou art in Gorementalism and the whole liberal science of global warming. The lack of temperature increases since 1998, and the recent record cold around the world, are, themselves PROOF of global warming. Get with the program! Also, the worship of the Terra Mater is in full accord with the worship of self as an off-spring of this Divine Mother. Moreover, it fits well with the Sacred Oak Groves of the druids, another new factor in present-day liberalism and Episcopoism. Modernize thyself, for goodness sake! Peace and love.

Pity these folks are too dull to realize that plants love CO2, and hardly get enough of it. The whole man made global warming myth is a passel of unscientific bovine waste water. As if man were that important! Try matching man made emissions against one small volcano.

The earth is my mother? Then who’s my daddy? The earth is my mother and my faith taught me this? Then why did mommy try to kill me with a tornado? Is it because I ate too much earth friendly broccoli and emitted too much methane into the atmosphere? Why did mommy send the brown recluse to bite my ass? Is it because I planted my endive crop too close to mommy’s woodpile? If the earth is my mother and my wife’s mother… isn’t that kind of strange? I mean, in the world outside the Episcopal church, isn’t that kind of strange? In the Episcopal church we have two daddies and two mommies, so if the earth is my mommy, is my other mommy my daddy?

Such useless verbal flatulence is a waste of good CO2 consuming trees! They should be ashamed to waste paper on such twaddle.

What a great, wretched, fetid, putrid, steaming truckload of pure, unadulterated bunk!

Except for this: “Leaders lead, please . . . do not let us down.” Now, if we can get ORTHODOX AC leaders throughout the whole AC to lead their flocks in Christ’s Way, Truth, and Life with planning and purpose, THAT would be marvelous!

Thanks to the proofreaders above. This kind of thing is almost as embarrassing as the content. How could a literate staff member let this kind of thing be published?

I also missed the biblical references to Mother Earth. My bad. Must get a new politically correct translation.

Heh. A fellow Proofer.

The funny thing is, I’ve never worked a job where I was proof-reading anything. I simply read constantly as a child and a teenager, and almost as much as an adult. Result: spelling and grammar errors just jump off the page (or screen) at me.

Robin Munn

And one I missed earlier:

Science confirms what we already know, our human footprint is changing the face of the earth …

As it stands, that’s a run-on sentence. That comma should be a colon.

But since there’s a larger chance of the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series than the author(s) of that text ever reading this comment, it’s kind of pointless to go on. Anyway, too much snark, even at deserving targets, isn’t all that good for the soul, so it’s time for me to quit picking these nits.
