NOBLESSE OBLIGE

Michelle Obama knows that you know how incredibly hard it is for a person to be flown first-class to one of the world’s most beautiful cities, accompanied by her celebrity gal pal, for a sales pitch, some sightseeing and real Danish for breakfast.  But God bless her, Shelley’s willing to take one for the team:

In her speech in Copenhagen today, First Lady Michelle Obama said her trip to Denmark, along with the travel of her “dear friend” and “chit-chat buddy” Oprah Winfrey, as well as tomorrow’s visit by President Obama, is a “sacrifice” on behalf of the children of Chicago and the United States. “As much of a sacrifice as people say this is for me or Oprah or the president to come for these few days,” the first lady told a crowd of people involved in the Chicago project, “so many of you in this room have been working for years to bring this bid home.”

Shel?  Nobody anywhere in the world has ever thought that, never mind said it.

I see the First Lady working.  If everyone reading this clicked on that PayPal button over there and dropped in a ten-spot, you’d all naturally think that it would a great sacrifice for me to buy a bottle of really outstanding bourbon with it.  Nevertheless, I’d do it and I’d do it with a smile on my face.  Know why?

Because I’m a giver.  And I’d do anything to make you folks happy.

I just saw this quote on another site. I’m gobsmacked at this woman’s arrogance. Nancy Regan was criticized so much for the DUMBEST things, but she had true class. As a matter of fact, I can’t remember a tacky Republican First Lady.

Would someone hand me a tissue please? This is all too much. Evita Peron, err, I mean Michelle Obama, really loves us littles.

SURELY by “sacrifice” Michelle is referring to the 43 soldiers who died in Afghanistan while her husband dawdles in responding to General McChrystal’s request for more troops, right?

Dunno about you guys, but having to share a flight with Oprah as a “chit-chat buddy” would count as a sacrifice with me :-)

That said: huh? Yeah, flying out one whole day before the President is a real hardship.

Can anyone explain to me why she couldn’t accompany him on the official state visit thingy and spare the public purse the cost of a flight? Or get her pal Oprah to pay for the ticket?

LOL, Evita Peron.

Well, the real sacrifice is the Presidency. You know how responding to the needs of Chicago and the powers-that-placed has reduced the Pres to panhandling for the Olympics for his ‘hood. deClasse’ alright!

If Chicago couldn’t get the Olympics without lowering the Pres to errand boy, they should have just sucked it up – what with their sacrificialness and all.

Amen, Fuinseoig. I was simply horrified to find, in Cairo, Egypt, that my European and some Egyptian friends were watching Oprah! I don’t watch her, at home or abroad. Maybe Michelle flew on Oprah’s private jet? Fat chance, when they can soak the taxpayer for the flight.

Let her fly home in coach on Lufthansa, then let’s see how she redefines “sacrifice”.

Let’s give Michelle Obama the same courtesy and respect that the Liberal Democrats gave to Laura Bush, Barbara Bush, and Nancy Reagan.

Whoa! A free trip to Europe by way of a luxury flight and then being showered with all the amenities while there, with people available day and night to meet your every wish or request is now a “sacrifice?” Talk about going the extra mile for a cause! I am humbled by such displays of martyrdom. Oh, the humanity!

Let’s face it, folks! The Main Stream Press considers the Obamas the new rulers of a resurrected Camelot which ended with John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Just as the press was enamored of Kennedy’s style and glamour, they are enamored and besooted by the One’s rhetoric and charisma. Of course, anyone with a modicum of perspicacity recognizes that – similar to John Kennedy – Obama is mainly style with no substance. But the press doesn’t see it that way.

So we have another glitterati President on our hands to whom the Press has given and will continue to give a free pass as far as challenging what he says or proposes. We will have to live with this for at least another 3 and a fraction years. What fun! :-(

Pat Nixon came close. But maybe that was just a reflexion of her husband’s shallowness.

Next time 0 says the rich will have to “sacrifice,” the rich should demand taxpayer-funded junkets, too.

“Besooted”? maybe a little too Freudian there, Mr Lewis…

Actually, I thought Nancy Reagan was sort of tacky, with her bitchy control of things, after checking with her astrologer, of course.

For rest of it, I’ll go with what Allen Lewis said. There’s an old story that in 1960, all the reporters wanted to cover Kennedy, who was young, rich, handsome, and slept with all the women. One guy was griping about his assignment to Nixon, but you told “you can do a lot more good covering Nixon.” For all of it, however, Nixon lost by a hair and you have to wonder how history would have been different… no Vietnam? No “Great Society”? There would have been a civil rights movement and legislation, I’d bet.

You know where to find really outstanding Bourbon for a ten-spot?

Spill it!

Christopher Johnson
October 1, 2009

Rod,

Actually, I’m going to need lots more ten-spots before I can buy myself a REALLY good bourbon/whiskey/whisky. But I’m willing to make the sacrifice. After all, it’s not about me.

Don Janousek

Rod,
Evan Williams is a surprisingly smooth and tasty bourbon for only about seventeen dollars, in the neighborhood of a ten spot. Also, Makers Mark isn’t bad either, for about twenty. Of course, there are places in southern Missouri down by the Ozarks where you can get “bourbon” in a mason jar that has been aged at least two hours for a ten spot or less. And after three or four sips, you’ll see visions!

You know what Michelle’s problem is? She just cares too much. I’m sure she’ll have a heavy heart as she does the People’s Work of touring Tivoli Gardens and snapping pics of the Little Mermaid.

The expansion of Chicago’s Culture of Corruption into the international sphere is made complete by the comments of Michelle Obama. They are a perfect fulfilment of her notorious ‘proud to be an American’ rant. Anyone who takes the time to look into the details of Chicago’s attempts to patch together an Olympic bid and the accompanying lies, profiteering, and dealmaking will discover that there are an awful lot of people who are – to echo a previous administration’s ‘nom de infame’ – “friends of Michelle/Barack/Mayor Daley” that stand to make a ***LOT*** of money from a Chicago Olympics. And the people of Chicago, who were told “you won’t have to pay for anything” are slowly seeing that (knowing falsehood) accidental mis-statement turn into “this is important to some people, so bend over and prepare to get screwed while a favored few reap incalculable benefits”.

But don’t hold your breath waiting for an expose of connections between the Obama administration and those who stand to benefit from the Olympics. That kind of factual, reality-based reporting will be covered by the MSM the same day that they cover JFK’s in-office affairs.

it’s a sacrifice, not a crony-enriching boondoggle?

i feel so much better…

Christopher Hathaway

I second Evan Williams as a good cheap bourbon. But I’m a scotch man who finds bourbon a little too harsh. Evan Williams is the closest a bourbon comes to the smoothness I like in scotch, and for 11 bucks that’s quite good. I drank it during last Lent (only on Sundays) because I had completely given up scotch. Hey, I’m willing to go the extra mile for holiness.

Don Janousek
October 1, 2009

Christopher Hathaway: First, I almost collapsed in awe when reading about Michelle O’s almost holy willingnes to sacrifice by flying to Europe on Air Force Two rather than Air Force One and now I am almost brought to tears by your austere Lenten sacrifice of foregoing scotch for cheap bourbon for 40 trying days. Oh…and I really mean, OH! The humanity!

Thought #1: …and what of the peasants, m’lady? Let them eat cake.

Thought #2: Barry & Shel would do better to focus their energies on the violence in Chicago, which is going to cost the city the Games, rather than participate in the ruse that all will be well.

Christopher:
I laughed my head off reading this sanctiminious drivel.
Honestly, what’s so damned sacrificial about flying to Denmark on ultra awesome first class to charm some international bureaucrats? For the kids(tm)?!
Spew alert

Quite frankly, if I were an American, I’d gladly take Michele’s place. I’d happily sacrifice myself with that hardship assignement

Let the wailing and gnashing of teeth commence, for alas! the sacrifice and misery endured by the First Lady was all for naught.

I sporfled when I read the list of candidates: it was a choice between Tokyo, Madrid, Rio de Janario – and Chicago.

Hmm – Rio or Chicago, Rio or Chicago? Oh, that’s a tough decision.

This:

Rob, in the words of the great Obama, “I have a gift”.

I guess this tin messiah’s gift is looking pretty much like pink bunny pajamas with slippers right now.

I LOOOVED Drudge’s headline: THE EGO HAS LANDED. Priceless. Feet of clay, a heart of stone and a brain of meat. A pity his nose doesn’t work, because he apparently actually thinks his farts don’t stink.
