COUP DE GRACE
Thursday, May 28th, 2009 | Uncategorized
The Episcopal strategy works to perfection as the Archbishop of Canterbury puts a bullet into the back of the head of a meaningful Anglican Covenant:
The text of the Ridley Cambridge Draft of the Covenant received strong support at the recent ACC meeting in Jamaica. However concern was expressed that Section 4 had not received the same degree of Provincial consideration that Sections 1-3 had. ACC-14 proposed that Provinces be given time to consider Section 4, that a small Working Group be set up to consider adjustment to Section 4 of the text in the light of Provincial responses, and to ask that Group to report to the Standing Committee before the end of the year.
The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Secretary General have now announced the names of the Working Group. They are:
- The Most Revd Dr John Neill, Archbishop of Dublin (Chair);
- The Most Revd Dr John Chew, Primate of South East Asia;
- Dr Eileen Scully, Anglican Church of Canada;
- The Rt Revd Dr Gregory Cameron, Bishop of St Asaph in the Church in Wales and former Deputy Secretary General of the Anglican Communion.
Let’s see. Three liberals and one right-of-center moderate. So it’s a pretty safe bet that the Section Four that emerges from this group will be stripped of anything even remotely hinting at the idea of church discipline. The chances of individual dioceses being able to opt in are dead and ACNA just took a torpedo amidships.
The Americans and Canadians have won.
Thing is, that’s not a bad thing to those of us who believe that the conservative Anglican tradition, if it is to have any chance at all, must cut itself loose from the poisonous influence of Lambeth Palace. Stop giving a damn whether or not you’re officially Anglican; let TEO and the AOoC have the “official” Canterbury connection.
Considering the anemic state of western Anglicanism and considering that Anglicanism is thriving precisely in those places where hostility to the American/Canadian “gospel” is the strongest, being able to call your pseudo-spiritual debating society “officially” Anglican counts for less than nothing. These days, a connection to Canterbury and a millstone around the neck are pretty much the same thing.
What this does mean is that certain conservative Anglicans who want to preserve their Canterbury connection are basically out of options. Because the Episcopal Organization now has an absolutely free hand to run radically wild this July.
Communion Partner bishop? You won’t be able to adopt the Covenant even if TEO somehow doesn’t like the final result when it officially takes it up in three years. Neither will you, ACNA bishop. So I’ve got one final question for both of you.
What are you going to do about it? Be careful how you respond. Because you don’t have three years. And if you truly do want to keep the orthodox Anglican flame alive in the West and you don’t relish being regarded as cowards, there’s only one right answer.

Ooh, ooh, I know the answer to this one! It’s found in 1 Kings 18 if you want to be “old school” about it. Otherwise, the answer is at 1 Corinthians 5.
Hopefully folks will read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest these Words.
Peace,
Doug

Stack the deck and then act oh, so surprised when you get four aces! What surprises me is how many people still waste time trying to fathom where RW stands in all this controversy. His actions answered that question long ago. By the way, Mr. Johnson, this is off-topic, but I just read a news report that Father Cutie, the “cute” beach boy Roman Catholic priest from down Florida way with a tendency to put his hands down available bikini bottoms,(some form of New Age blessing, I assume), has announced that he has joined, or will be joining, the Episcopal Church. Oh my! What a loss for Rome! He ought to have fun continuing his “surfin’ safari” with the Episcopos! Cowabunga, Dude!

What else could we expect from Mr. Rowan Williams, who truly has proved himself so repeatedly to be the Antichrists’ stoolie? Most certainly, anybody who hasn’t already cut himself off from that wretch is endangering his soul!!! Doug Stein has put it right!
As to “Father” Cutié going to TEO: good riddance!!! I so wish that ALL those other “liberals” in the Roman fold (e.g., “Father” Lombardi, the stool-pigeon editor of “L’Osservatore Romano” {”The Roman Observer”} would depart in the very same way!! [But they, as spiritual Communists, need to be exposed and forced so to do - very few will do so voluntarily...]

By “put it right” (oops), I meant to say “written it as it really is”.
Mea culpa…

Christopher Johnson: “And if you truly do want to keep the orthodox Anglican flame alive in the West and you don’t relish being regarded as cowards, there’s only one right answer.”
What’s the right answer for TEc’s Institutionalist-Enablers of soul-destroying heresy and apostasy who like to call themselves “Communion Conservatives”.
The one right answer is to end the charade and make the split whether you think that will kill your current “legitimate Anglican” status or not. That is, if you think that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is more important than a connection to an international organization that is barely a century old.
Yeah, ++Rowan has told the Windsor Working Group just what he thinks of section 4 by those appointments. The lone conservative/moderate can just skip the meetings for all the good he will do.
Now, I wonder, what will ++Drexel Gomez do now that his Covenant has been so callously gutted! Will he finally join with GAFCON, or will he try to trim his sails so as to sail with Canterbury?
Touch question. As far as the CP bishops are concerned, they are a joke and will equivocate and dither as usual. Do not look for any meaningful action from them.

Hi Chris,
What’s the reason you think the ACNA has taken a torpedo? As I understand it, GAFCON (where there was heavy Common Cause Partner representation) was a recognition that Canterbury based Anglicanism and any covenant the arises from that source are dead in the water.

One more point - the hardest Word for the orthodox will be found in 1 Kings 19.
Having started, orthodox Anglicans have to finish it - and that means:
facing the self-doubt and self-pity that comes from losing the worldy patrimony
realizing that the Lord has called to Himself plenty who haven’t bent the knee to or kissed the Ba’als
and seeking and anointing your successors.
We still have a Covenant and Great Commission provided not by a Dead Committee, but a Living Lord and Savior. That not only suffices but is an abundant provision for what we need to do. Let the dying society cleave to the dying denomination; we’ll follow Jesus. Did he not say to the young ruler “…leave the dead to bury their dead - but come follow Me!”?
Peace,
Doug

Christopher Johnson: “The one right answer is to end the charade and make the split whether you think that will kill your current “legitimate Anglican” status or not.”
No disagreement here. None whatsoever.
Just tell it to those staying in TEc who are keeping up or enabling the charade.

Uh, a rather ungracefully implemented coup de grace, it would seem. Have a gander at the links to comments at top of page here:
http://anglicantv.org/node/224
(HT T19) It would seem that the Section 4 working group has no mandate, as the resolution promotng it was never voted on, rather only an amendment to a proposed resolution was voted on. I expect that this might stir up Anglican Blogworld once again. Oh goody. But from what I read, neither has the covenant been sent out for approval.
HLP,
I just think that GAFCON has to publicly admit that the Canterbury connection is dead and that it’s finally time to put away childish things.

“Thing is, that’s not a bad thing to those of us who believe that the conservative Anglican tradition, if it is to have any chance at all, must cut itself loose from the poisonous influence of Lambeth Palace. Stop giving a damn whether or not you’re officially Anglican; let TEO and the AOoC have the “official” Canterbury connection.” The Canterbury connection is really only an historical link in the one holy catholic and apostolic church. The roots go further down and the limbs will go further out but it is the same tree. It is the Tree of Life, Jesus Christ.
May 28, 2009
Amen Dcn Dale……! All of our priets and bishops have the lineage….and we along with that lineage will keep going and going stronger for Jesus Christ because after all it is really all about Him and not the WWAC and the See of Canterbury! The See of Canterbury has left the Faith once delivered for all the saints…they have left the building looking for Elvis!

Christopher Johnson: “I just think that GAFCON has to publicly admit that the Canterbury connection is dead and that it’s finally time to put away childish things.”
I’ve been thinking and saying the same thing for a long time. Remember that bet I proposed to you last summer during Lambeth 2008? I.e., that GAFCON wouldn’t do anything (other than staying away), and I gave you odds too. You wisely declined.
Seriously, the so-called “conservative” folks staying in TEc are Institutionalist-Enablers for TEc and the GAFCON folks are Institutionalist-Enablers for the Anglican Communion.
You can do the reform by dialogue-to-death Indaba yaba-daba-do Listening Process all the way until Christ returns and then spits you out for being lukewarm bleah, but why be so foolish?
If you can’t effect timely discipline upon blatant heretics and apostates, then biblical separation is the only option left that honors God.
The Americans and Canadians have won.

I was soooooo surprised that it came to light that the covenant is headed for oblivion. But, then I had a flash of intuition. Didn’t someone here once say: “Covenant = irrelevant” just as “Eames/Windsor = irrelevant?” Wasn’t there a committee appointed to help the poor and downtrodden orthodox ECUSA and Canadibob churches and dioceses escape their comeuppance from the GLBT episcopal trotsky-ite fire-breathers? Didn’t it, too become irrelevant? CJ is right: It’s time to put the whole “Anglican” thing behind us and move on. (May I have a mug please?)
The only benefit to being Anglican is your bishop gets an invite to meet the Queen every 10 years. Either side, the Episcopalians or the conservatives, getting kicked out wouldn’t mean anything. It wouldn’t hurt any parishioners.
Clown Celebrant -
You are obviously referring to the committee, chaired by Archbishop Carley of Aurstrailia. If I recall, that committee managed to do absolutely nothing of substance, but it managed to do it with a lot of “sound and fury” so as to look as if something were being done. It was so effective that I cannot even recall the name of this committee.
I said all that to say this: The Anglican Covenant - if it ever gets adopted or “accepted” (whatever that might mean) - is nothing more than meaningless verbiage. There will be no discipline, there will be no correction. In short, the several provinces will be allowed to do whatever they wish to do with no consequences whatsoever. At which point, we no longer have a Communion of churches who are upholding the “faith once delivered to the saints”. What we will have is a collection of national “churches” which decided on their own what they believe and do, with no accountability to anyone else - especially to the Lord Jesus Christ (or so they will think).
So why is anyone wasting time with such silly charades? As TU..AD and our gentle host, Christopher, have pointed out, the connection to Canterbury is as meaningless as the vaunted Anglican Covenant will turn out to be. So it is time to move on without Canterbury. Where is it written in stone that Canterbury is the only authority which determines who is officially “Anglican” or not? Seems to me that the Continuing Churches have been doing just fine without Canterbury.
For those who like to sneer at the Continuum, I remind you that they are still here, despite lack of “recognition” from Canterbury and active interference from it (in some instances). While their growth rate might not be impressive, part of that is that because people are still pretending that the Lambeth-connected “church” is actually a church at all. If I recall my Bible correctly, the “remnant” that Yahweh spoke of to Elijah, and that Isaiah and Jeremiah referred to, was a small number out of all the people. So do not quote numbers at me. Numbers are not indicators of true belief or faith. Quite frankly, I would maintain the opposite.
So it is time to quit wasting time with a sick organization - the Anglican Communion - which is doing all it can to dilute and destroy true Christianity. In short, it is time for people to decide whom they will serve.

One more piece of evidence (as if we needed yet more) about what Mr. Rowan Williams really thinks of Christianity:
[Also available on Virtue Online:
http://www.virtueonline.org/portal/modules/news/article.php?storyid=10546
and http://tinyurl.com/oy28wh.
The real clincher is the following sentences uttered by Mr. Williams (especially the second of this quotation):
But, speaking at the Hay Festival in Wales, Dr Williams defended Pullman.
He said: "First of all he takes the Christian myth, or a version of it, seriously enough to want to disagree passionately with it. [Emphasis mine - Sasha]
“It’s not just dull or remote, it’s dangerous. You’ve got to tussle with it. It’s still alive.”
Although he stressed he disagreed with Pullman’s atheistic view, he commended his “search for some way of talking about human value, human depth and three-dimensionality, that doesn’t depend on God.”
Merely to ask the question was important, he said.
He agreed with the thrust of Pullman’s novels that religious authorities must not silence the “demons” that people carry with them - the essential “internal conversation” between good and evil.
When Mr. Williams speaks of Christianity as a “myth”, then is it any wonder that he acts the way he does?? [And how about "silencing the 'demons' people carry with them"??]
Also, note this last paragraph of the same article:
Asked by the writer AN Wilson whether modern literature had “come adrift” from the worlds of philosophy and theology, Dr Williams admitted: “Theology has itself in some ways drifted out of the intellectual mainstream. On the whole theology doesn’t figure.”
In other words, that wretch puts far more stock upon his vaunted “intellectuality” and the praises of men than upon God and what HE Thinks about it all (not to mention true theology)!!! With such an attitude, one can immediately understand why he wants the Canucks’ and Yanks’ money and posturing as part of “his Communion”!!! [Obviously for him the true believers with their "simple" faith are worth zero!]
Yet more reason for the rest of us to say: “Good-bye and good riddance to you all!! See you when you repent and prove it - until then, farewell for ever!!!!”

To the tune “If you’re happy and you know it”:
I’m A-M-i-A and I know it!
Praise the Lord!
Connected to God’s Holy Word,
Praise the Lord!
United with believers
God’s Grace and Love receivers!
I’m A-M-i-A and know it!
Praise the Lord!!!
This set of “appointments” surely will put Rowan on the PB’s short-list for best sinecure in her 815 New Thang Gozspell (c), don’cha think. Or will the fast-tracked ex-Roman priest beat him out for the top spot? Ah, well, …
I’m A-M-i-A and I know it!
Praise the Lord.
