Gene Robinson is a journey, not a destination:

Resolved, the House of _____ concurring, That Title III, Canon 1, Sec. 2 of the Canons of the Episcopal Church be amended to read: No person shall be denied access to the discernment process for any ministry, lay or ordained, in this Church because of race, color, ethnic origin, national origin, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression of gender identity, disabilities or age, except as otherwise provided by these Canons of the Episcopal Church. No right to licensing, ordination, or election is hereby established.

This revision is based upon our increased understanding of the need to respect the human dignity of transgender people: transsexuals, and others who are seen to differ from societal gender norms. Gender identity, in and of itself, should not be a basis for exclusion from consideration for, or participation in, the ministries of the Church.

In other words, when will they openly endorse incest, bestiality, pædophilia, necrophilia et al as ALL being “holy” and “sanctified”???

Probably after they endorse ordination for transexuals and transvestites, although I expect endorsing ordination for necrophiliacs and pedophiles will be delayed for at least 15 years.

Paedophilia, being a sexual orientation, is already covered by the letter of the canon. It will just take another 30 years for them to realize that.

Still, I wish I could link the thing that make me think that certain members of Integrity are already thinking along those lines, but message board I have in mind no longer exists.

They have left out (inadvertently I am sure)religious differences, (including Non Christian and atheists) and intellectual disability.

OOPS!!! Failed to notice that “disabilities” is including and since it is lacking in definition “intellectual disability” has been included. Sorry for selling the resolution short!!!!

Also noticed that ‘marital status’ is also undefined so “polygamists” are also OK.

Wow, “expression of gender identity” and “others who are seen to differ from societal gender norms.” That’s a loop-hole you can drive an aircraft carrier through.

I say they should go for it. Clarity, clarity, clarity.

Since we have the presence of a bishop not validly baptized who happens to be female, this little item qualifies all the nonbaptized of every stripe to every office because as noted nothing matters. There is not right to orders is laughable because it suggests that there are qualifications of some sort, zeitgeistian only, one may rest assured.

Hmm. Even now I am trying to think of chant modes that would fit the lyrics of Sweet Transvestite.

“of race, color, ethnic origin, national origin, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression of gender identity, disabilities or age,…”

They forgot add religion.

Ed, I’d use the 5th tone for the verses

with the 1st tone for the refrain:

Ending “f” seems a nice touch, don’t you think?

It is to laugh. I was sort of joking about placing my qualifications for Bishop of Hiawathaland up against Genpo’s…

… but since it seems that everyone on the planet (with a pulse — the canon still allows discrimination against those with alternative metabolic rates) is qualified to be an Episcopalian bishop, maybe I should have thrown my hat into the ring.

God have mercy.

Current TEO capos won’t allow a Christian to attain any office, not that any would desire it.

Mmmm – they might want to re-think the “disabilities” thing. If the candidate is refused on the grounds that he or she underwent the psychological exam and it showed they were likely to rob the poorbox, burn down the church, and run off to Mexico, this gives them a perfect chance to sue for discrimination.

After all, kleptomania and pyromania are mental disabilities, and you’ve just said that disabilities are no bar to ordination.

Am I the only one who has picked up on the blatant speciesism of this document?

When will those faithful fellow-creatures of the Creation who attend the Blessing Services with their human companions at least once a year (which is more than some human members do!) be recognised?

We demand the transpecies diaconate now!

Fuinseoig,

I was just thinking the very thing! Peter Singer would be appalled.

The trans-species diaconate will lead, of course, to terrible theological squabbles over whether the diaconate is inherently more feline or canine…

… and they’d better get that “metabolic rate” language in ASAP to regularize the consecration of Empty Coke +Bottle!

Just when I think TEC cannot do anything more to make itself look sillier, they go and come up with this twaddle. Why don’t they just admit that they know better than God or Jesus, or the Holy Spirit and just worship themselves?

They might as well. There is nothing remotely Christian about any of this foolishness.

Zach – you’re right! Discrimination against silicon-based life forms! Why, the next thing you know, they will be denying the priesthood to the Horta!

Ed the Roman: Once you finish the Tranny lyrics, have a go at the new interpretation to be given to the refrain “Don we now our gay apparel” when “Deck the Halls” is sung at Christmastide.

Don’t forget solidity, liquidity, vaporousness or plasmic state of being

Then again, a lot of TEc theologians seem rather vaporous, and having key bishops replaced by Changelings would explain a lot about the past seventy-five years . . .
