BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE MCJ

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 | Uncategorized

MCJ health news.  Things may get somewhat sporadic around here because Editor has developed a badly-strained left ankle.  So badly strained that it’s extremely difficult just to get around the apartment, never mind walking down the stairs, running errands, seeing a doctor or sitting up for long periods.

I’ll figure something out and see how it goes but unfortunately, what that means is that last chapter of the current “Chris Johnson, Anglican Investigator” will probably be delayed a week.  But in a related story, when I moved the site over here, I thought I had lost the back stories posted at the new site.

Turns out I hadn’t.  Someone had saved them and sent them to me the other day.  They are safely stored on a Flash drive and will begin to appear here from time to time.

My prayers go out to you. I’ve been in a similar situation for the past 2 months after dropping kitchen knife on my foot and severing a tendon requiring surgery. I was casted and on crutches for 6 weeks and have finally graduated to a below the knee splint. Getting around, even to the bathroom was difficult. Riding around the grocery store in one of those electric carts was humiliating, especially when your husband takes a picture of you and sends it to all your friends! So take it easy and rest that ankle. Anything with tendons take a while to heal, so don’t get too impatient. I’ve certainly gained a different view of mobility in the past weeks.

Chris, I’ve had my left snkle sprained about two dozen times and had it scope-cleaned twice. Darn thing is hurting as I type after the morning workout. I understand how uncomfortable a sore ankle can be when you are standing up for long periods of time.

Please take care of yourself and adjust your activities as you can. Know that I – and many more people more important and erudite than I – are praying for you!

Sorry for your medical problem, Chris. I once broke my leg while practicing fencing for a show. I came off the stage and got tied up in ropes and didn’t know until the next day that I had broken my leg. I got one of those air casts that you wrap around the leg, but I still had to hobble around the stage and the fencing (or the part where I jumped on furniture, anyway was out. It’s miserable being immobile from an injury or in so much pain that you might as well be immobile. I will keep you in prayer; Take care of yourself.

Poor Chris. The loss of Peter Toon, the world in crises, the US plunging into moral darkness, etc. – and then this! It’s all just too much. Sorry. At least you have the advantage of all of your loyal following’s prayers, and will heal quickly.
Take care
…and to Anna: my daughters put me in one of those carts when I hurt my knee and we all got the giggles. We were so silly that we were afraid we would be kicked out of the market and banned for life!

CJ,

As a fellow veteran of ankle sprains, I have special unction for prayers….sounds like the rest of your fans do as well.

May the Healer visit you with the powerful Presence that heals, saves and delivers….and may that power permeate your whole being, spirit, soul and body and may His ministering angels remain with you to care for you and keep you in His peace.
Hope there are some ‘listeners’ in on MCJ who live nearby and can do some errands or supply your needs.

I was worried when your post began with ‘MCJ health news’ I know you are hurting, but an ankle is not as serious as I feared.

Very best regards and my prayers will remain.

Hey, the one time I sprained an ankle happened when I jumped off a lifeguard tower at some beach. So give thanks that at least you are not stupid on top of injured.

But will certainly be praying for your healing… 10 a.m. Holy Communion here on Wed. and will pray for you at the altar.

Ouch – sorry to hear that, Christopher. Look after yourself and I hope it will improve enough to let you get to a doctor.

Jumped off a lifeguard tower? “At least you are not stupid on top of injured.” LOL. Good one, Rev. Fountain.

Rest assured we will all be suffering with you. While you suffer with ankle pain, we will suffer the tension of waiting for that last episode awhile longer! Tough all the way around! I creamed the tendons of my ankle swinging on a swing when I was in college, and hitting my foot on the edge of the playground asphalt. We had all been painting at the children’s hospital for a day. Getting around on campus with crutches was tough, but the most miserable part was going to a formal dance on crutches. If I didn’t go, my date couldn’t. So I sat out the whole darn thing on the sidelines with an aching ankle. But, like with most things, patience helps.

We’ll be keeping you in our prayers, Chris.

Great news about the old CJAI epidsodes. When you start posting them, I will start archiving them. I would hate to have those lost to posterity!

Ice packs are helpful…and alternate heat and cold…anti-inflammatory pain relievers…wait a minute…

Gosh, Chris, I just thought of a great solution….

If you can get to your keyboard, type up some good-looking nurses and chefs to take care of you. As CJ-AI, you can have Little Myrmidon, Fuinseoig and Kathleen Lundquist running around with gourmet goodies flown in from muerk in NZ and all the refreshments from Bill (not IB)’s place to go along with it. One can sing you Anglican hymns, lullabies and blues songs (Kathleen) another can cook and run errands and another massage your back…bring the limo around to take you to all your appointments…CJ-AI is sure to have an old friend (who owes him big time) put in a portable elevator that runs off your laptop. See, you really have everything you need right at your fingertips!

Glad I thought of it. I’m sure it would have come to you sooner or later.

Prayers for a quick recovery and redeeming consolations and blessings to balance the loss of time, pain and inconvenience. Sprains are not fun.

Please keep us posted on your recovery.

I pray that your ankle heals quickly and returns to normal ASAJA (as soon as Jesus allows!).

Understand getting around makes blogging hard….but are your fingers sprained, too? ;-)

If I was in your area, I’d volunteer to help.

Get better soon. Have you considered the possibility that the bad guys have gotten to you? Even Webster Groves, Mo., is not safe! Evil lurks at the library! I like Whitestone’s solution, in addition to the prosaic RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation — plus ibuprofen.

I hope and pray it’s something which will clear up soon with rest, ice, and anti-inflammatory drugs, if your stomach can tolerate them.

I hope you don’t have Achilles tendinitis, as I do in one of my ankles. I’ve been fighting that off and on for several years and have had to curtail physical activity, which hasn’t been good for my morale or waistline.

When I read about your ankle, I actually winced. At least though, you can still type. My story is that I broke my right leg in an auto accident and along with that I broke my left wrist in 3 places. Try tying your opposite arm down for an hour and let me know if you find a way to manuever up out of a chair or off the couch. You’re a man, you stand up most of the time!

I will be praying for you and for others to come to your aid, as my church did for me.

Take it easy for a while, Chris. I just assumed the Anglican Investigator jumped from the cathedral balcony onto a passing lorrie a split second before the whole place blew up.

Obviously an Episcop/Leftie plot to silence you. Never fear – my trusty Wonder Cat and I are on the case and Inspector Closeau is flying in from Paris to assist. In the meantime, take care of yourself, follow your doctor’s advice, keep a stiff upper lip and get well soon. We can’t afford to have our Glorious Leader sidelined! Prayers for your full recovery are on their way up even as we speak.

Thanks for all the prayers and kind words, everyone. It seems to be getting better. Was going to have some sort of medically-trained person or other take a look at it today except that, as I knew it would, a household disaster intervened(hint: I’m waiting for a plumber.)

:-(

God bless, Christopher. I went through a couple of years where I was falling all the time, so I know some joint pain. It’s miserable, but even at my advanced age (let’s not talk about weight) , it passed, so it will for you, too.

In my family, it’s the backs that tend to go out.

You’ve not had fun until you’ve suddenly found yourself clutching onto a chair in white-knuckled spasms of agony because just walking through the kitchen door made your dicey back go out on you.

My sister is currently lying in bed, doped up on really strong painkillers, because her back decided one morning that it wasn’t going to co-operate :-)

I just sent you a “recuperation diversion” gift yesterday. Articles from *The Historical Journal* (formerly *The Cambridge Historical Journal*) aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but these two might interest (or at least divert) you.
