Give ‘em the old razzle-dazzle and get their eye off the puck.

My grandmother could have stopped that shot.

To subdue the enemy without fighting is the supreme excellence of generalship.

To score the point without shooting is the supreme excellence of hockey.

Missing the puck for the stick!!!!!

First rule in all circumstances.: keep your eyes on the ball (puck)

Rule of every sport: play the ball (or puck), not the man.

Went to several hockey matches while living in St. Louis (Webster Groves).

Those experiences led me to the solemn belief that all fans of ice hockey should be forced to watch endless videos of curling events while eating bacon that is round. Oh, and while drinking brake fluid which goes by the name of Canadian whiskey.

I had to watch it several times before I figured out what he did! Amazing!

Bet the goalie was really embarrassed!

Interesting and impressive redirection.

Brings another redirection to mind. What ever was the final outcome of the ongoing investigation into the Libyan incident? Which leads to another, what ever happened to the guy who created that absolutely horrible film?

Sorry for the redirect but weird minds think in weird ways.

Don Janousek,

As a long-standing season-ticket holder of the Dallas Stars, I respectfully disagree with you. I have very strong feelings regarding football (NFL) fans, but I allow that they are entitled to their enjoyment whether or not I understand/agree with their perspective. I would have to say that the same is true of hockey; you needn’t agree with those who support the game, but it’s wrong for you to find fault with them.

The goal in question is, IMHO, absolutely legitimate, and a masterpiece of misdirection. Penalty shots are typically extremely hard to score on, and the way that this shot is sent around the side of the goalie while he’s looking the other way is a work of art. It’s the hockey equivalent of the “rope-a-dope”, and it’s really a joy to watch.

If only the Republicans could figure out how to do that to Obama. Then the world would be a better place.

Even though All-Star games never provide defensive gems this one has to be about as embarrassing as give-aways get.

Thank you for this video. It made my day.

I have to go completely off-topic here, for a technical issue. I’m using Google Chrome as my browser. Whenever I visit TheMCJ.com, a bar pops up: “This page is in German.[There are other languages in a drop-down menu] Would you like to translate it?” Your choices are: Translate. Nope. Never translate German. Then a second drop-down of other options. Among that menu is a note to Google telling them, “This page is in English.” No reaction from them yet.

Has that been happening with other browsers?

Of all the sites I visit, only TheMCJ.com gets this treatment.

Maybe that’s what you get for dealing with Google? (Spoken as someone who is a complete digital idiot. That’s why I have a Mac. It works and I don’t have to know how.)

Yes, I’m sure you are right. But I don’t have to buy a new computer as often as you do. But then again, if you are living into teutonic language, PC is right for you.

BTW, aside from computers bought for my chilren, I’ve bought three in ten years, and one was my first laptop since 1996.

Passeth your understanding? But why? Wasn’t my diction good enough for you? Or was it because of my subtle episcopalian undertones? Too many questionmarks already?

Ed, my last computer, then, lasted more than twice as long as yours, and it suffered from several years in Indian and Egyptian power systems and climates. Finally gave up the ghost at nearly seven years, and the iMac on our kitchen counter is over that age now. So, yes, more expensive, even for the life of the machine, but not anywhere near three times as much.

Actually, the player missed his attempt at a deke. What misled the goalie was that the player realised he couldn’t play the deke (ie turn and tap the puck into the right side of the net), and therefore had to skate past the goal. Ideally, the puck should have stopped so he could reach back and tap it. The goalie in turn, was watching for the puck to pop out from his skates.

Cheers

That’s a lie, Mr Heinrichs! It was pure Finnish skill.
