I’ve mentioned previously that the thing that got me through prostate cancer surgery was PBS cooking shows.  I don’t know why but I found them relaxing and looked forward to them every day(CreateTV, PBS’s how-to digital channel, gives me access to more cooking shows more often than I had two years ago).  When you have to spend a week with a Foley catheter in you, you take anything that you can get.

Now and then, my friend Sue from Taylorville, Illinois and I kick around the idea of starting a cooking blog.  Problem is, she’d have to carry it, at least initially, since I didn’t really start serious cooking until a couple of years ago, I don’t have any technique to speak of and I sometimes view recipes as enemies rather than friends.

So you may, in my effort to begin to move this thing away from what’s been its primary focus for the last five and a half years, see an occasional cooking post here from time to time.  Like this recipe for Mongolian beef I found at the Prof’s that I took out for a spin Saturday night.

The result?  If I impressed myself while not knowing jack about this stuff, just think what you people who actually know what you’re doing can do.

So, this is going to evolve into Midwest Casserole Journal?

Christopher, I think it’s a healthy idea. Too much time spent on Anglican wars is not good for the system. (I’m in recovery myself!)

Let’s cook! :)

Recipe? I don’t need no stinkin’ recipe!

Which is why I always want a safe, standby dish in the refrigerator… just in case…

So, shall I send you my recipe for Indian Pudding? It’s made with real Indians.

I still make that Reuben Casserole recipe you sent me that time!

Good idea, Chris!

Such posts should ease the tension as the Anglican world disintegrates and the US Constitution is further shredded by BO and the Pelosi Posse and their allies in the Senate.

We’re going to try it!

We enjoy the community here. Even though we don’t know all of you personally, most of you (reasserters)are family to us…A few unnamed (reappraisers - just to be clear ;-) )are like our blacksheep relatives.

[...] RECIPE FOR MONGOLIAN BEEF, from the delightfully named “Crepes Of Wrath” food blog. Christopher Johnson tried it and emails: “Thank you for the Mongolian Beef. Really. Thank you a WHOLE lot.” [...]

Lately I’ve been turning my hand to baking (and distributing the results at work!) It’s rather relaxing and the results are usually tasty. Experimenting with new muffin flavors is kind of fun.

I also tried the Mongolian Beef recipe and found it excellent.

I too tried the Mongolian Beef this past Sunday and found it excellent. Hat tip goes to Instapundit for the link. I made two slight changes though. I used a good sirloin cut for meat, and cut back a little on the brown sugar. I also doubled the red pepper. Ok, so that’s three changes…

And to wash it all down a little Diet Coke with Bacon.

I’m not making this up. Really.

Christopher — I tried out the Mongolian Beef recipe this evening & it was a big hit with my family. Even my teenager daughter liked it (and she’s the family’s Mikey of Life Cereal fame)! Thanks for the recommendation.

I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

Hi, Ruth, nice to have you. I don’t know how many cooking posts you’ll see here but there will be more and more of them. Can’t tell you when, though.
