OKAY, FINE

Saturday, December 20th, 2008 | Uncategorized

Whatever:

(1) I have no clue how to fix a toilet but I know how to flush one if the need arises.

(2) When I was younger, I had a serious crush on Marie Osmond.  And I still do.

(3) I was an Episcopalian simply because my mother was.

(4) I still like the Sex Pistols.

(5) I don’t know why but when I was getting my Master’s in Library and Informational Science(as opposed to science that keeps stuff to itself) at the University of Missouri at Columbia, Guns and Roses’ “Paradise City” really grew on me.

(6) Give me the choice and I move to western Kansas/western Nebraska/eastern Colorado tomorrow.  Give me the choice and a chance to learn how to work with tools and I move to Alaska the day before yesterday.

Ok here goes.

1. I make soap.

2. I was suppose to get married to Peter Tork of the Monkees but the fool lost my address and never showed up for the engagement party. I was 10 at the time so maybe I was just too mature for him.

3. If I was ever to seriously consider a second career it would probably be as a dog trainer. Well after soap selling that is.

4. I have Catholic DNA.

5. I have a phobia about high bridges. High being defined as one that I could not tangle my toes in the water if I was to sit on its edge. I am also not fond of very long bridges. Guess who has never been to the Keys?

6. I nac daer sdrawkcab dna nwodedispu. Smees I nac epyt sdrawkcab oot.

Well, let me not be backward about coming forward :-)

Random facts, hmm?

1. Jaffa cakes are my downfall (I don’t know if you have Jaffa cakes in America; they’re small cakey things with a sponge base, a centre of orange-flavoured jelly and covered in chocolate; they’re made with the cheapest ingredients, taste remarkably like cardboard, and I love the things).

2. I hate heights (seriously; I don’t know if I qualify as an acrophobic, since being in tall buildings doesn’t trigger panic, but even standing on a chair I go “Whoa, get me down!”).

3. I can’t sing – couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket, as the saying goes. Which is a pain, since I love music.

4. I could read before I started school (aged 4 – no kindergarten or nursery school in them far off days back here in the wilds of rural Ireland). I can’t tell you when I learned to read, since I don’t ever remember not being able to read.

5. I have absolutely no memory for names, though I’m good with faces. I’ve worked with people for five years and still referred to them as “Oh, you know her – tall, black hair, always wears some shade of blue”.

Who shall I tag in turn? Er, oh – Allen Lewis, tjmcmahon, midwestnorwegian, Whitestone, LaVallette: your moment of fame is upon you!

*sigh*

It’s supposed to be SIX facts and SIX people, eh?

6. As you can see, numbers and I do not agree. At all. Still adding by counting up on my fingers.

And for the sixth victim, I select you, Fr. J!

Fuinseoig, my dear…

Jaffa Cakes:) Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

What Jaffa Cakes?’

With my love to the ‘Emerald Isle’

No need for tags but if anyone knows of a 12 step program for Jaffa Cakes I am all ears as they cost me a fortune here in the USA via amazon.com

PS Please send Cadbury Flakes for Xmas:)

I don’t about this Chris. They say you have to be very open-minded to live in Alaska. I am not sure you are that open-minded. Maybe you should just settle for the eastern slope of the Rockies. The geography is not much different.

The details of my life are quite inconsquential. Oh, very well, where do I begin?
I would rather work on a toilet than have to disassemble and clean a stove in a rent house where the outgoing tenants thought the word “cook” was spelled “f-r-y.”
My answer to the eternal question is Mary Ann; my one friend who answered Ginger married a redhead and is now an Orthodox priest.
I grew up in the Episcopal Church because my parents were Epsicopalians, but my parents told me they became Orthodox because I thought it was the right thing to do.
If I’m serving or chanting, I can assist in a 4-hour Hierarchical Divine Liturgy without breaking a sweat, but if I’m sitting in a pew, that priest needs to learn to pick up the pace when saying Low Mass.
The best smelling place I’ve ever been in my life is the Sauce Room at the plant where they make Ranch Style Beans here in Fort Worth.
If I could pay off all my debts today, I would flee to a monastery tomorrow, if for no other reason than to see if I can truly hack it in God’s beloved Corps.

Alaska is only good in the summer: it’s too dark there in winter. And WAY too cold.

Hey, Paula –

You make soap? That’s cool! Just for yourself/family/friends, or do you sell it at bazaars, craft fairs, etc.? Are you online anywhere?

You should try Etsy.com. All you need is a couple bucks to cover fees (no fee to sign up; only .30 to list an item), good pictures, and enough patience to write/post good descriptions of your stuff. I just put my handmade jewelry on Etsy at mysteryfuzion.etsy.com, and I just found out that my (gold- and silversmith) cousin is on it, too. Got a sale my first day. Check it out – and let me know if I can buy your soap anywhere!

My nephew and family moved to Alaska this past year…I knew of Wasilla before I knew of Palin. It’s cold there. Period. So my brother decides to join them…It’s cold there. This is from a guy who worked at a ski resort in California. Moose run loose. A lot of moose. Mooses? And did I mention…It’s cold there. 15 degrees and lower.

Alasdair+, it heartens me to find a fellow addict :-)

Cadbury’s flakes – ah, in the words of Half Man, HalfBiscuit and their song “Dickie Davies Eyes”:

“God, I could murder a Cadbury’s flake/But then you probably wouldn’t let me into heaven/Or maybe you would. ‘cos their adverts promote oral sex”.

I don’t know if you ever saw the Cadbury’s Flake ads mentioned? My favourite, I have to say, is the 90s one of the woman in a bath – I wanted a bathroom like that! :-)

1) I love trains. I’ve always wanted to be at the controls of a have a steam locomotive, racing along the tracks with the smoke and wind whistling past my face.

2) British comedy is my favorite, especially Monty Python. Who else could come upw with “Ralph the Wonder Llama?”

3) I once celebrated thanksgiving with a big turkey & fixin’s dinner at the “House of Pizza” near Seoul, Korea.

4) I like wandering around cemeteries and reading the headstones.

5) My father-in-law taught me how to shoot pistols and rifles. It’s a lot of fun.

6) One day while standing in the checkout line at a home improvement store, an elderly woman behind me said “Did anyone ever tell you that you look like Bigfoot?”

Since I don’t have a blog, I really don’t feel right about tagging anyone else. Instead, I’m going to start a chain letter……..

Fuinseoig-
Apologies, for not responding sooner. My wife and I went to Orlando, Fl for Christmas week as we have no family at home & we needed the break!

1) Music has always been a big part of my life. I play percussion and guitar (folk, not jazz, although I wish…)

2) I am an avid movie buff and watch upwards of 10 movies a month – mostly DVD’s, since I am very hard of hearing and theaters do not usually do subtitles.

3) We have two parrots – an African Gray and a Blue and Gold Macaw, two chihuahuas, one special-needs Manx cat and numerous fish.

4) I love to cook. For our children’s Senior Prom (when they were in high school) we had our twin girls and our son and their dates plus two other couples for a pre-prom dinner of individual Beef Wellington (wrapped in puff pastry – made from scratch) with duxelles sauce), asparagus, with home-made strawberry short cake for dessert. I dressed as a Maitre D in a tuxedo and my wife wore one of those frilly Maid outfits with the lace hat.

5)I love to read. My favorite topic now is early Church history and apologetics.

6) My present wife (my first wife died of cancer) and I love to travel. Someday, maybe we might make it to the British Isles. I have always wanted to visit Ireland.

I would tag, Kathleen Lundquist, Gregg Griffith, William Witt, the Little Myrmidon, Matthew (aka mousestalker), and Athanasius Returns.

Happy New Year, everyone!
