J’OH!!

The fifth Teletubbie wins friends and influences people:
A spokesman for Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian has denied that Sarkisian asked U.S. Vice President Joe Biden not to “force” the issue of Armenian genocide while negotiations on the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations were in progress, RFE/RL’s Armenian Service reports.
A video was posted on YouTube on October 27 that shows Biden speaking to a man who says he is an Armenian-American community activist.
He asks Biden what message from the administration of President Barack Obama “we should be giving to our community” on the mass killing of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire from 1915-19 and its recognition by Washington as a genocide against Armenians. Biden responds: “What you should be giving to your community is that we are not backing off. The Turks have to come to the realization of what the reality is.”
He adds that “And what we [have] got to do is, you know…the compromise that was going on and being worked at for a while…. Tell [the Armenian-American community] that it was the Armenian president that called me and said ‘Look, do not force this issue [of genocide recognition] now, while we are in negotiations [with Turkey on reconciliation].’ We passed…. So anyway, reality has a way of intruding.”

Since you can’t prove a negative you can’t prove that the Armenian President doesn’t exist and so couldn’t have called him.
So there.
Sorry, I had a brain embolisim and forgot was thinking Kurds instead of Armenians. The turks killed a LOT of people.
Who looks stupid now?

“In September 1987, newspaper stories stated he had plagiarized a speech by British politician Neil Kinnock. Other allegations of past law school plagiarism and exaggerating his academic record soon followed. Biden withdrew from the race later that month.” Biden is a liar.

He’s an idiot, too. And to think the Democrats put him on the ticket because of his “foreign policy experience.” Bleah.

Actually, I have a small smidgeon of sympathy for Joe in this instance (though he did make a hash of it).
The Turks, as you know, are campaigning for entry into the E.U. And as you all probably equally know, the Armenian killings are a very sensitive topic. Turkey has never really faced up to its past and vehemently denies any suggestions of “genocide” or the like.
Now, I can perfectly well see the President of Armenia telling the Vice-President of the United States “For goodness sake, keep your trap shut about anything while we’ve actually got a Turkish government willing to talk to us about our mutal history. We have to proceed very delicately here.”
I can also see the descendants of Armenian emigrants wanting to know what the White House is doing about forcing Turkey to admit responsibility; the same way Irish-Americans were very interested in what influence the White House could bring to bear in regards to British-Irish relations and the Peace Process.
But yeah – not too big on the tact, friend Joe.

“For goodness sake, keep your trap shut about anything while we’ve actually got a Turkish government willing to talk to us about our mutal history. We have to proceed very delicately here.” Well, that’s your pretend quote. How about this?”Arzumanian added that Sarkisian’s administration would officially give its consent to publishing a record of the telephone conversations between Biden and Sarkisian.” If he had said what you suggest he said the he would be reluctant to release the record of the phone call. Biden is a liar not just a bumbling fool.

I doubt seriously that Biden can remember clearly what anybody says to him. What sticks in his mind is a sort of vague narrative of what happened, which is easily changed by the demands of whatever interaction he’s having at the moment. He likes to tell people a story, and something comes out. Its relationship to reality may be doubtful.
OTOH, if you told me that somebody in the Obama Administration said something about downplaying Armenian genocide, and that Biden just conflated the State Department guy and the Armenian president, I would believe that.
October 28, 2010
Dale, what I meant is that the Armenian President may have asked Vice President Biden not to apply any pressure to the Turks while the Armenian-Turkish talks were ongoing, or not to make any public statements about blaming Turkey for genocide, which would cover what he said to the Armenian-American activist.
Now, if the Armenian President is saying he never said anything of the kind and is willing to make the conversations public, then that’s another kettle of fish. In that case, if he can prove he made no demands, then Mr. Biden is not telling the truth to the man who asked him about it.
We’ll see what happens. A politician telling a representative of a voting constituency what he thinks they’ll like to hear in order to win their votes? I’m shocked, shocked! I tell you!

Biden will say exactly things in exactly the way the Turks have said things about Armenians. The president of Armenia said *this* to me…Uh, he didn’t say it…..Uh, we never spoke….Uh, there **aren’t** any Armenians…..Uh, it was Bush’s fault…..

Joe specifically…sorta…seems to recall some sort of conversation…or something…with some leader from America…or Slovenia…or some place…about turkeys…and some girl named Jenny O’Side… an Irish woman or something…and that is why he did or did not do something or other. Anyway, the bottom line is that Joe is, as usual, on top of things…or bottom…or something.
Christopher Hathaway: Hey, no problem. When it comes to keeping track of the people slaughtered by fanatical mooslim Turks, it’s difficult to keep the names on the list and the total numbers straight. Coulda happened to anyone.
