Progressive leftist hipster douchebags?  We know that you’re going to be flooding into Episcopal churches any day now because of Gene Robinson and Mary Glasspool, the fact that Episcopalians have abolished sin so you can do pretty much anything you want and all the rest of it but is there any possibility that you could pick up the pace?

By way of a related resolution proposed by FFM, the council approved borrowing of up to $60 million to refinance $46.1 million in debt that comes due at the end of this year. The $37 million renovation loan makes up the bulk of that amount. In addition, close to $10 million was spent on property in Austin, Texas, as a potential site for relocating the Archives of the Episcopal Church. The resolution said that the borrowing authority is also meant “to provide continuing working capital and liquidity.”

The resolution calls for mortgaging the Episcopal Church Center in Manhattan and securing the rest of the borrowing with unrestricted endowment assets. The current debt is in the form of a line of credit.

So the Episcopos are now practicing Obamanomics. And they are going to repay these loans by………crickets!
Too bad they can’t just print money like the feds.

I really like the part about acquiring funds to purchase a site to store the Episcopo archives. There’s a real treasure for future historians. Wouldn’t a rented locker at the Greyhound terminal work just as well?

Any financial organization loaning these people money gets what they deserve.

Which is probably a big fat bankruptcy and deeper insolvency.

They’ve got to have a place to store legal documents generated due to litigation.

Sexual misbehavior and fiscal mismanagement seem to go together: find allegations of one and you often find the other.

That said, I have to admit I thought the cash would last longer than it has. But they aren’t just losing membership: they are losing active members who are either appalled at the rank theology or just tired of the mess. The former are probably their most consistent givers, even if the amounts they give aren’t the largest, which is to say, I would bet that a significant percentage of the people who have left are tithers. Those are the ones you least want to keep, and, quite probably the most scorned by the leadership.

She mentions seminaries doing more together. Now there’s a thought; since they don’t teach much in the way of theology (read any parish website at random. They usually post recorded or transcribed sermons. Pick the one for Trinity Sunday and prepare to be amused) and since we know you can become Presiding Bishop without an MDiv, those places are a fairly expendable budget item. If the seminaries closed tomorrow what possible effect could there be on the Episcopal Church?

The facade of the Episcopal Church Center in Manhattan has deep window niches that homeless often use, until they’re rousted. Potential rental revenue source?

This could be titled Clueless in Manhattan. They don’t have connections to reality. They had a $37 million renovation to headquarters and paid $10 million on a “proposed” location for the archives, meanwhile embarking on actions which ran lots of donors out of parishes and drained national funds, and will continue to unless they cancel the lawsuits.

Progressive leftist hipster douchebags?

Do you get a lot of people that answer when you adress them this way? Just curious…

I think I asked this before, but I don’t remember the answer.

What is the justification for spending 10 million on expensive downtown Austin property for what will function as a warehouse and library. Wouldn’t it be better to attach the archives to a seminary or maybe the University of the South? Seminary or university student housing would be available for researchers in the summer, and there might be other advantages. Of course, the Seminary of the Southwest is just about 20-25 blocks north, but parking can be a problem in Austin.

I recognize that a viable and growing church might find the visibility of a major structure in a downtown area to be an advantage, but TEC already has St. David’s parish next to the proposed site, and, actually, that part of downtown is getting a little seedy.

KJS, can you say “fi·du·ci·ar·y”

FW Ken,
The problem with attaching the archives to a seminary is that many TEC seminaries are closing or losing money and don’t have much of a longterm future either.

“…securing the rest of the borrowing with unrestricted endowment assets.”

Yes indeed, Dale, “fi·du·ci·ar·y”.

Can we all spell ” Lawsuit”

Here is the irony to me. KJS has stated publicly that she is attempting to preserve the legacy of TEC. Her counterproductive efforts are leading to a depletion the financial reserves, loss of seminaries, loss of members and loss of the faith once delivered. What was once a first rate Christian denomination is now…..well, I don’t know what to call it.
