Some woman in New York said some things about some stuff:

Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori on November 21 inhibited Diocese of Fort Worth Bishop Jack Iker for abandoning the communion of the Episcopal Church.

In the text of the inhibition, the Presiding Bishop wrote that “I hereby inhibit the said Bishop Iker and order that from and after 5:00 CST Friday, November 21, 2008, he cease from exercising the gifts of the ordained ministry of this Church; and pursuant to Canon IV.15, I order him from and after that time to cease all ‘Episcopal, ministerial, and canonical acts, except as relate to the administration of the temporal affairs of the Diocese of Fort Worth,’ until this Inhibition is terminated pursuant to Canon IV.9(2) or superseded by decision of the House of Bishops.”

For his part, Bishop Iker thanked the woman, whoever she is, for the compliment but since he does not consider himself an artist, wondered just what of his that she was planning to exhibit.

Katharine Jefferts Schori has no authority over me or my ministry as a Bishop in the Church of God. She never has, and she never will.

Since November 15, 2008, both the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth and I as the Diocesan Bishop have been members of the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone. As a result, canonical declarations of the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church pertaining to us are irrelevant and of no consequence.

While the Fort Worth Standing Committee declared of its own volition that it denied without precondition the proposition of granting permission for the imposition of this proposition.  In addition, it demanded, with much erudition, prohibition of this woman’s foreign mission, whatever her predisposition.

The Standing Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth is a member of the Province of the Southern Cone as of November 15, 2008. Bishop Iker is a member in good standing of the House of Bishops of the Province of the Southern Cone.

We wonder by what authority the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church in the United States presumes to inhibit a bishop of the Province of the Southern Cone. We do not recognize the authority of the Presiding Bishop over us. We regret this illegal, unconstitutional, and uncanonical attempt to interfere with the rights and ministry of a diocese of another province of the Anglican Communion. We call upon her to desist from any further actions in our diocese and that she refrain from any further border crossing.

By definition.

UPDATE: Not that this is a surprise or matters in the slightest in the long run but George Conger observes that this woman is making canon law up as she goes along.

Bishop Schori’s inhibition of Bishop Iker also appears to have introduced a new interpretation of the disciplinary canons for bishops. The requirement that the church’s three senior bishops endorse the inhibition of a bishop—which had been deemed irrelevant to the case against Pittsburgh Bishop Robert Duncan in September—has been reinstated in the case of Bishop Iker.

The archflamingo KJS is straining the bonds of affection with archbishop Venables, is she not?

I think the Listening Process in an Indaba group setting with +++Rowan Williams presiding and mediating between ++KJS and ++Venables at the next Primates’ meeting will be very helpful at re-establishing those strained bonds of affection.

Bp. Iker is to be highly commended for his directness. And I’m delighted how he said “Katherine Jefferts Schori has no authority over me or my ministry in the Church of God. She never has, and she never will.”

Note – it’s not “TEC”, or “this church”, or “the Anglican Communion” – it’s the Lord’s church! And, while being respectful, he didn’t yield to political correctness and give her an ecclesial title – for she has none; she can no more be a bishop than a squid can be a communion wafer.

Bishop Iker – you have joined the ranks of the martyrs like your predecessor, +A. Donald Davies, who considered his deposition to be a badge of honor. Your display of steadfast faith in the face of tyranny and persecution is truly reassuring.

Hmmm, if she did science like she does canons, no wonder she couldn’t get grants. That and her math, Making up data and poor math skills are looked down upon in the peer-reviewed scientific journals which hold a very poor view of diversity in the application of those principles, for sure.

The notice of inhibition used “CST” vice “EST”: is that canonical?

Cheers

Who cares, Mr. Heinrichs!!! Ms. Schori-Jefferts was glad to have +Iker inhibited when she could; with +Duncan, since she couldn’t get him inhibited, she simply had him DIRECTLY DEPOSED by majority vote of her fellow-Quisling “bishops”!!!

Canons or no canons, TEO is no longer anything like a church of God – it’s now so totally become a synagogue of Satan as to be prime evidence of how Our Lord has ABANDONED it to its reprobatehood and apostasy!!!! Like +Iker, +Schofield, +Ackermann (even if he’s ill) and +Duncan, we can all join in and say to her as “McGregor” put it above: “BEGONE!!!!”

Canons mean what the 815 leadership wants them to mean, and they get to change that day by day. Perhaps we may even see hourly changes in the months to come. “Communion Partner” bishops and priests have to know that they will be cut off without mercy, especially after the Convention next summer. Their failure to take defensive action boggles the mind.

Actually, Katherine, those would be the double secret canons as set out in a little-known codicil to the TEO Constitution.

Katherine –
I heartily concur. I do not understand the thinking of +Lawrence and others. They seem to think that they exist in little isolated islands, far beyond the reach of 815 Second Avenue. Perhaps they thing that St. Rowan of Canterbury will come to their rescue armed with the Anglican Covenant ®

I confess I am mightily confused at such wishful thinking on the part of seemingly intelligent people.

On VirtueOnline, there’s an article at this moment in time suggesting that the Province of the Southern Cone is the one that could be suspended from Mr. Rowan Williams’ “Anglican Communion” because of the great and wonderful work they’ve been doing to succour those of us living “in partibus infidelium”.

If that rumour’s true, I sure hope it happens and ASAP – that will deep-six matters in a formal schism the way they should have been many years ago!!!

Sasha,

Gee whiz, why can’t you tell us how you really feel?
